St. Xavier's Institution is a well-known boys' school in Georgetown, Penang. It is the first of all La Salle Schools in Malaysia and also in Asia.
While the year 1852 is inscribed on the school building, the history of the school begins much earlier than that.
It was named after St. Francis Xavier, the pioneering Christian missionary and co-founder of the Society and Jesus ( Jesuit Order). While being a boys' school, girls are also admitted , albeit only in Form 6. The abbreviated name of the school is 'SXI' with the pupils known as 'Xaverians'. The School motto "LABOR OMNI VINCIT" means "Labour Conquers All".
